Safeguarding

SAFEGUARDING is an essential part of our roles in school. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the children in our care are kept safe, in school and out of school.  All children, regardless of their age, disability, gender, race, religion or beliefs has a right to equal protection from harm.

We, at St. Mary’s, take this responsibility very seriously and

  • have robust policies and procedures in place
  • have well trained staff who are confident in identifying and raising concerns
  • have leaders who are confident in responding to those concerns and working with other agencies to protect children
  • use teaching resources to promote wellbeing and safety.

Please read our policies for more information.

ONLINE SAFETY

There are many benefits and opportunities the use of technology, including the internet, can offer as a means of enhancing learning. To ensure the use of technology is beneficial we expect all children to act safely and responsibly when using technology both within, and outside of, the school environment.

To ensure our pupils know how to use technology safely we embed the teaching of e-Safety within computing and PSHE  lessons. In addition to this, every February we join in with the global celebration Safer Internet Day to remind our children how they can be safe and responsible when using digital technology.

TOP TIPS

  • Set boundaries and rules: establish some ground rules for going online such as; the amount of time they can spend online, when they can go online, websites they can visit.
  • Keep your computer in a shared area: talk to your child about what they are doing online and, if possible, set up your computer in a shared area at home so that you can all share in the wonderful sites that are available online.
  • Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp/Snapchat/Twitter/TikTok : many of these social media sites have a minimum age limit of 13, so our pupils should NOT be using them.
