Behaviour
At St. Mary’s Catholic Primary, we have the highest of expectations with regards to behaviour. We have a strong policy and clear procedures that are adhered to by all, to support the children in being the best they can be. Visitors to our school comment on the calmness in each classroom and how happy the children are. The children speak very highly about our school and how much they enjoy coming here.
We are not suggesting that we do not have any behaviours which need to be addressed. Children are children after all and they do have fall outs and times when they don’t make the correct choices. It is at these times that our behaviour policy is applied consistently by staff – we have a traffic light system in each classroom which acts as a behaviour monitoring tool. If the children do move to amber they have every chance to move back to green by making good choices without any further sanctions needing to be used. Overall, this is a very successful system which the children do respond well to.
Also, we pride ourselves on being a nurturing school. We value all of our children and celebrate their uniqueness. Some children have additional needs which can have an impact on their behaviour. Some have social and emotional needs and others have days when they are feeling sad because of something happening outside of school. This is when our fantastic pastoral team step in and provide whatever support is needed, at that moment and personalised to the needs of that individual child.
There is always someone to talk to, someone to listen, someone to help, someone to understand how you are feeling, someone who cares.
‘At St. Mary’s, we live and learn, sharing God’s love.’
