RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT ST. MARY’S

As a Catholic school, we incorporate Religious Education based upon the Liverpool Archdiocese syllabus.  This currently is made up of two programmes, ‘Come and See’, which is taught in years 4, 5 and 6 and the new Religious Education Directory, entitled ‘To know you more clearly’, currently taught in Nursery, Reception, year 1, year 2 and year 3.  This will be introduced in years 4, 5 and 6 in September 25.

Through religious education teaching and learning we aim to:

  • Provide each child with the opportunity to develop their relationship with God.
  • Promote knowledge and understanding of Catholic faith and life.
  • Develop awareness and understanding of the impact of faith upon our daily lives.
  • Foster attitudes of respect towards all who live in our society.
  • Develop skills linked to the reflection upon, and practice of, religious belief.

During the year, we try to be involved, where possible, with our parish church of St. Mary’s. Classes go to church for mass, at least once per half term.  We also attend masses on special occasions, such as feast days and the Nugent Care Mass.  Other religions are also studied and special festivals are celebrated in assemblies.
