Curriculum Intent Statement 2019
Our curriculum is currently under review. The Statement of Intent has been developed following consultation with all stakeholders.
Our vision for the curriculum is :
At St. Mary’s, our aim is to provide our children with an engaging, exciting and empowering curriculum that equips them for today and the future.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We aim to provide our pupils with a clear understanding of the possibilities and opportunities that there are for them in life. We believe that our children should leave St. Mary’s with a love of learning and an understanding of the world.
It is our intent that children at St. Mary’s Catholic Primary will experience a wide range of learning experiences that have challenged them and developed in them a passion for life-long learning with the cultural capital to be educated citizens, with the knowledge and skills for future learning and employment. Our curriculum is designed to develop independent, confident and successful learners with high aspirations, who are well prepared for life in modern Britain. (Intent statement 2019)
We currently use Lancashire planning materials as the main basis for our planning supplemented by other materials such as White Rose. Non negotiable elements include the children’s entitlement to termly visits/visitors eg WW2 talk from ex Armed forces personnel, The Storyteller, Disability awareness day, CAFOD, Drumming workshop (Jeff Rich), family members, Food bank, Blackpool, Museum of Science and Industry, Theatre trips, Residential for year 6, Worden Park, supermarket, Library, Church, Vehicle museum etc
We also recognise the importance of extra curricular activities and therefore offer a variety which cover Art, DT, PE, RE and Lego.
Enrichment weeks have taken place for Art, Humanities and Science.
Subject leader roles have been redistributed in September and much time has been spent developing these roles. A clear action plan has been in place with termly actions ie subject leader skills audit, subject action planning, policy development, assessment grid design, data analysis, book monitoring, walkthroughs and audit of resources.
All subjects have a named governor and meetings have taken place between them and the subject lead. This was fed back to full governors. End of year subject reports were also written for Governors.
Subject leaders are currently developing more detailed subject provision maps.
Links with the high school are developing eg Science workshops.
